Hasty Achillobator update by pilsator Hasty Achillobator update by pilsator
Achillobator: Agony and Ecstasy in 8 Parts. Wimps and posers, leave my therizinosaur carcass.

Had a WIP of this in my Scraps folder. Tried to save it and make it acceptable. It's certainly not one of my best, but at least it's done.

Something with the upward bend of the tail is gravely wrong, but I can't put my finger on it. Comment and tell me, so I can fix it!

Edit: Fuck this shit. All my errors were removed, and the whole shebang colored, by Durbed's magnificent take on this one. Words can't express the awesome. You like this? Laaaaame. Check out Durbed's work.

Have you updated it already? The only thing that looks slightly off to me is the base of the tail being a bit too low and thick (unless its covered by thick plumage, but doesn't seem to be the case), apart from too straight from the base. So, more or less what Scott said. Anyway, its still very good!

The big thing is that the base of the tail is too angled, rather than flexing upwards. The tail has to emerge straight from the pelvis (because the sacrum can't flex) and THEN it bends up over the next ~6 vertebrae.

Thanks for the comment, Scott! Had my try erasing and redrawing, but it doesn't quite work, so I will actually redo the entire thing (although it probably will take some time). It _is_ actually easy to see that the anteriormost caudals bend up right from the sacrum as they can't now that you say it (similar mistake as in the Limusaurus press release reconstructions), but it wasn't quite evident to me when I looked at it first, giving me a hard time to put the finger on what exactly is wrong with it.

What a beauty. Love the markings/patterning as always, and I especially like how you've drawn the feet in this one.

The tail isn't bad, but I think it would look more realistic if it were slightly curving down rather than perfectly straight. Dromaeosaur tails were more bendy than people typically give them credit for.

Thanks, Emily! Slightly curving at some place down its length, or in a somehow more believable looking way at its tail base?

I'd say a little of both; the curve should be fairly gentle throughout the whole tail, though maybe more curve at the proximal end than at the distal. The way that Smnt did his Dein tail [link] is pretty close to what I mean, though I think the curve could even be a little more pronounced than that and still look realistic. Jaime's maniraptoran skeletals [link] also tend to exhibit The Perfect Curve.

Alright, I'm actually a big fan of making deinonychosaur tails curve gently. As I said, the drawing above is fairly old.

This looks amazing! I can't see anything wrong with the tail.

Perhaps the tail is lacking some sort of gravitational curve? it seems too straight to me. Ah well, the rest of it gives me shivers. Not exactly a puppy, though keeping one of these on a chain would make an impressive guard-raptor

I think it's the way it faces upwards :/

Love to see it fleshed out in color with an appropriate background.

Thanks, but the more I look at it, the more I wish to completely re-do it.
